Dear Citizens:
Tonight’s agenda consisted mainly of liquor license approvals for the Thunderbird Wine and Art Festivals.  Council approved these licenses 6-1 (Stavoe against).
Note: Councilman Stavoe voted against, expressing concern that the Town may not be properly following sales tax law and wanted to wait for the auditor’s report on this status.
Council voted to deny changing the day of council meetings from Tuesday to Wednesday 5-2 (Miller and Germmill in favor).  Councilman Koteas expressed a personal problem with changing the day as he was required to travel for his work, and all his schedules had been set up to work around Tuesdays.  The 5 council members that voted against did so in the spirit of cooperation for a fellow councilman.

CALL TO THE PUBLIC: Hans Thiel asked that council members be more civil rather than argue.
Ron Clark asked that a fund be set up to accept donations from citizens for playground equipment in Town Center.  To that end, he made a financial contribution to get the fund started.
Margaret Stewart requested that the council work together rather than the discord of the prior meeting.

LAST MONTH’S QUESTION OF THE MONTH: Last month, council voted (4-1, Coady in favor) against  lowering a town fee from $200 to $25 for garage and estate sales in Carefree.  Do you feel council made the correct decision, or that the fee should be lowered?
First I must apologize for the typo, the fee is $100 not $200!
81% of your responses supported lowering the fee or not even having one.  The other 19% felt that there was a serious security issue with opening homes and communities to strangers.  Others felt that it was an invasion of their privacy.
Once again I did get some really great feedback and suggestions; some believed that this should be a once a year event, with both town and citizens actively involved.  It was suggested that a town event such as “Hidden In The Hills” be used to identify specific homes involved, with the Town Marshal and Posse providing roving security.  Still others felt that it should be a yearly event sponsored by the town and held in Town Center so that merchants and restaurants could benefit also.

QUESTION OF THE MONTH: Did you attend Carefree’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, and did you enjoy it (I’ve already gotten great reviews on the car show)?

DID YOU KNOW: Town Hall has moved and is now located at 8 Sun Dial Circle.

SHERIFF’S SECTOR: MCSO Aug. Stats-17 arrests, 1 burglary, 252 citations issued, 168 for speed, 0 noise.
Lt. Pete Metzer, Deputy District Commander, introduced himself and stated he was pleased to be back in Carefree and had been assigned here as a sgt.
